My name is Craig Brown and I live, work and play primarily in Port Charlotte, Florida, which is on the south west coast of Florida, about half-way between Sarasota and Fort Myers.
I retired from the U. S. Coast Guard in August 1997 after 23 years active service. My specialties were military pay and travel, personnel administration, and managing my own computer networks. Stints as an instructor, a maritime law enforcement officer, running pay and travel offices, and working basically as a travel agent at the U.S. Embassy in London, England awarded me a challenging and fruitful career. Of course, the 5 years stationed in Honolulu didn't hurt. Other duty stations included Cape May, NJ (twice); Mobile, AL; Petaluma, CA; Long Beach, CA and San Diego, CA.
In 1998, I went back to school full time to get my Bachelor of Science Degree in 'Adult Interdisciplinary Studies' at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. My 'focus' was in Administrative Science with concentrations in Information Technology, Business and Communications. Soon after graduating in December 2000, I moved to Port Charlotte in September 1, 2001. My family followed in February 2002. This was my longest separation from my family...not even matched while on active duty!
Since 1976 I have wrestled with various computer systems, beginning with 'state of the art' word processors of the day; messed around with the early Tandy, Apple and Convergent Technologies/Unisys PCs; became pretty familiar with Microsoft's DOS (Disc Operating System), CTOS/BTOS (Convergent/Burroughs Technologies Operating System), all the Windows (3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, Me, 2000Pro, XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10) Operating Systems, and now the Android Operating System. Unfortunately, I have yet to really get into the Mac OS... but, with the advent of the Android OS, I can pretty much handle iOS now!. I've built my own computers, and repaired many, but I would rather help others learn how to use their 'user-friendly' PCs more effectively and efficiently
Over the years, seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, college courses and on-the-job training has provided me a wealth of education in computing. However, the field is too big for me to know it all! While I may know a lot about computing, there's an awful lot more I don't know about it! I really enjoy keeping current and sharing what I learn with others.
I am blessed to have a wonderful friend and partner, my wife, since 1982. With 4 outstanding children, their spouses and 8 fantastic grandchildren! God continues to bless my family and I each and every day!
Besides computing, I enjoy my grandkids, SCUBA diving, traveling, and reading.
