Here's a few things that will hopefully help
your computing experience go a little easier. Wanna see more tips?

Some of my favorite links where I keep up-to-date or get most of my
questions answered:
- If your computer just will not 'act
right'....SHUT IT DOWN!
- Your computer will
automatically power off if you hold down the power
button for at least 6 seconds!
- Don't be intimidated by all those cords! Most of the
time, each cord is either color coded or it will only fit a certain
hole. Those 'new' USB plugs (looks like a little rectangle) will
plug into any USB port (rectangular hole) in your computer.
- When you turn on, or "boot up", your computer it should
only take about 45 seconds (new computers) to as much as 2 minutes
(older or 'dirty' computers) to fully "boot up" to show your desktop
and all your desktop icons (and background services, like your
antivirus program). Any longer than 2 minutes is NOT normal!
You should have it cleaned and scanned to get that boot time
reduced. You probably won't have time to get that cup of
coffee during boot times any more!
- For ANY problem or
question you have concerning your computer (or anything else for
that matter), "Google it"! I guarantee you that there will probably
be thousands, if not millions, of people with the exact same issue
as you. You may have to read through quite a bit of diatribe to get
your answer, but you'll find it on the Internet!
- To "Google it" means to open google.com in your browser,
then type your question in the 'search box'.
- When your Internet is not working, before you call
anyone:
- Close and then reopen your browser.
- Type in a different Internet address to see
if that web site works.
- Try another browser.
- If the above doesn't work, 'restart' or
'reboot' your network:
- Power down
(turn off completely) your computer(s), your modem (unplug
the black,
skinney round cord), and your router
(again, unplug the black, skinney round cord).
- Wait
about one minute.
- In
this order, first plug in the power cord to your modem. Wait
about 2 minutes or until all
the lights are green and steady (the
'Internet' and/or 'ethernet' lights may blink).
-
Second, plug in the power cord to your router. Wait about 30
seconds when all its lights
are steady green (one or two may
blink).
-
Lastly, turn on your computer. Wait until it fully 'boots
up' (look for all the icons in the
lower right corner of your screen to
appear), then open your Internet browser. 98% of the
time, 'rebooting' your network will
fix a 'no Internet' problem.
